Clay Diver Meets the Octopus

Beneath a miniature clay sea, a vintage deep-sea diver in a round brass helmet and canvas suit extends one gloved hand to shake the offered tentacle tip of a friendly purple octopus, who raises two other tentacles in a cheerful wave. Both are hand-modeled from matte plasticine: the diver's suit is mustard-yellow clay with fingerprint-pressed canvas folds, the helmet a thumb-shaped dome of dull gold clay with three round resin portholes and a coiled wire air hose trailing upward; the octopus is soft violet clay, its head a slightly lopsided dome with big kind eyes, each tentacle hand-rolled with pinched suckers underneath, one curl still bearing the maker's thumbprint. The set layers like a storybook reef: in the foreground pink and orange clay coral branches, a tilted treasure chest spilling crinkled foil coins, and a startled clay crab peeking from a shell; in the midground the handshake, strands of green wire-and-clay seaweed swaying, resin bubble beads rising; in the background a crooked rock arch of grey clay, a sunken amphora and painted blue depths with tiny clay fish silhouettes. Soft teal light filters down in visible rays from the surface above, warmed by the little lamp glowing on the diver's chest. The camera sits slightly low in a medium-wide shot with a gentle vignette, deep focus across the reef. Every material is honestly handmade: matte clay, wire, foil, resin and painted card.
